York College has climbed three spots this year and is ranked #16 among baccalaureate colleges in the north by U.S. News and World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges” (www.usnews.com/college/).
York was also ranked #9 in the magazine’s “Great Schools, Great Prices” rankings. The formula used to determine which colleges and universities offer the best value relates a school’s academic quality, as indicated by its 2010 U.S. News ranking, to the 2008-09 academic year net cost of attendance for a student who receives the average level of need-based financial aid. The higher the quality of the program and the lower the cost, the better the deal.
And York was ranked #16 in the magazine's "A+ Options for B Students: Baccalaureate Colleges North" rankings, which looked at a school's U.S. News ranking and the average freshman retention rate. To be eligible for the list, baccalaureate colleges had to be in the top half of the U.S. News rankings, had to bring an average of at least 75 percent of their freshmen back in the fall between 2004 and 2007, and had to admit a meaningful proportion of non-"A" students.
