“I Do, I Do!” by Schmidt and Jones, creators of “The Fantasticks,” is a two-character musical based on Jan de Hartog’s play, “The Fourposter,” dramatizing the love and life of a couple from their engagement through child-rearing to packing and moving 35 years later.
The play will be directed by Amanda Jones, a junior theatre major from York, Pa., and stage managed by Jillian Baker, a junior theatre major from White Plains, N.Y. The part of Michael is played by Ross Carmichael, a junior theatre major from Railroad, Pa. Michael’s wife, Agnes, is played by Breanna Geppi, a sophomore theatre major from Lutherville, Md.
“I am so excited to be directing “I Do, I Do!” Jones said. “This show is different from anything the Players have done. My cast is so hard-working, and we can’t wait to put on this quirky, romantic and hilarious take on marriage to the College and the community.”
“A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry, first produced in 1959, is one of the most important plays in the history of American theatre and the first play by and African-American performed by the Players. The story of a family trying to move to suburbia from a southside Chicago ghetto shows how Walter Younger, Mama’s only son, moves from his misguided values to a sense of courage and dignity.
The play will be directed by Patrice Martin, a senior mass communications major from Philadelphia, and stage managed by John Beppler, a sophomore theatre major from Scranton. The part of Walter is played by James Moffett, a computer science major from New Milford, Conn. Walter’s mother, Mama, is played by Aurora Hudson, a political science major from Mount Vernon, N.Y. “Directing has been a wonderful experience for me,” Martin said. “My expectations are very high for this production, because the cast and stage manager are extremely talented.”
