The York College Players season will open with performances of “Bakkhai,” the Greek tragedy by Euripides, at 7 p.m., Oct. 6 – 10, in Perko Playpen Theatre.
“Bakkhai” (406 BCE) brings Dionysos, the god in whose honor theatre was created and performed, on stage to make the citizens of Thebes, his home, recognize his divinity. A chorus of maenads, the bakkhai of the title, accompany him as he leads Pentheus, his cousin and king of Thebes, to his doom.
The York College Players produce plays and occasionally musicals from the classic and modern repertories for the education and appreciation of the college community. Funded through the Department of English and Humanities, Players is open to all full- and part-time students who meet academic criteria.
All production by The Players are open to the public free of charge.
