Music Division schedules July camp for high-school musicians

February 17, 2010

York College’s Division of Music will present for the first time a summer day camp that will provide local high-school musicians direct musical interaction with world-class faculty as well as specialized workshops. “YCP Summer Music Experience for High School Musicians” will be held from 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., in the College’s music facilities in Evelyn and Earle Wolf Hall, during the week of July 12 - 16.

This weeklong event will offer a local opportunity for high school musicians to improve skills and knowledge through master classes, chamber ensembles and a broad range of elective classes.  Daily participation in quality music experiences will inspire and motivate students to fulfill their potential and increase their enjoyment of music.  Included in the camp will be daily theory and ear training classes, composition seminars, chamber ensembles, master classes with resident and guest faculty, and workshops on practice habits, stage fright, successful auditioning and career opportunities for musicians.

“YCP Summer Music Experience is a mix of hard work and fun,” said Susan Loy, administrative director of the summer camp and an adjunct instructor of music at York College.  “The program’s knowledgeable faculty will help young musicians improve their technique and musicianship, increase their confidence in their performance, and prepare for successful district, regional and college auditions. The students will also experience the joy of making music with new friends and enjoy the recreational activities at the College.”

York College faculty coordinating the camp are Loy; Adjunct Instructor of Music Gretchen Dekker-Elicker, who is artistic director of the program; and assistant professors Dr. Grace Muzzo, vocal coordinator for YCP Summer Music Experience, and Dr. Kenneth Osowski, theory and piano studies coordinator for the program. Additional information, including application materials, is available by emailing Loy at sloy@ycp.edu or calling 717-815-1354. Applications and a $25 deposit must be submitted no later than May 30.

An application form is available below.
