Faculty Flute and Piano Recital on Nov. 1

October 2, 2009

Two York College music faculty members will collaborate for a flute and piano recital at 3 p.m., Nov.1, in the DeMeester Recital Hall, Wolf Hall.

Flutist Alicia Kosack and pianist Kenneth Osowski will present a program devoted to works by American women composers, including Katherine Hoover, Lita Grier, Adrienne Albert, Mary Howe and others. The event is open to the public free of charge. For more information, contact Fred Schreiner at fschrein@ycp.edu or call 717-815-1258.

Both Kosack, a music professor, and Osowski, a music professor and the Coordinator of Piano and Music Theory Studies, joined the York College faculty in 2002 and played a recital together their second year. This will be the second time they will collaborate for a solo recital, and in a few weeks, they will perform together again as part of Kosack’s doctoral degree requirements.

Kosack earned a bachelor’s degree in flute performance from Harid Conservatory and a master’s degree in flute performance from Peabody Conservatory. She is currently working on her doctoral degree in flute performance at the University of Maryland, where she plans to graduate in May. In addition to working freelance, she is a member of the Trelumina Trio and Washington’s Camerata.

This recital has required a lot of individual practice, according to Kosack, but she and Osowski will have a few rehearsals together once the event gets closer. “Ken is wonderful,” she said. “It is always a pleasure to team up with my colleagues to play chamber music.”

Osowski earned a bachelor’s degree in music from Yale University, a master’s degree in piano performance from the University of Nevada and a doctoral degree in piano performance from Peabody Conservatory. In addition to performing at the College, he performs frequently in the York and Baltimore areas and is a member of the Matinee Music Club in York. He is a frequent contributor to the Evolution Series, a concert series dedicated to contemporary music by living composers, and he often performs with Peabody alumni and students.

Osowski performs regularly at the College, and his big projects include yearly solo and faculty chamber music recitals. Although he and Kosack have worked together often over the years, he still is excited to work with her again. “It is always a joy to play with Alicia,” Osowski said. “I believe the last time we did a full recital together was five years ago, so I’m really looking forward to November’s recital.”
